Thirst is extremely proud to announce that Rick Valicenti has been awarded the 2011 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award in Communication Design. The National Design Award honors the best in American design that demonstrates the importance of design and its impact on the quality of daily life. While the award honors excellence and innovation over a body of work, the submitted portfolio represents Thirst’s present and future. “This is a shared honor, we all did this together.” – Rick V

A little history on the National Design Awards

The National Design Awards were conceived by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum to honor the best in American design. First launched at the White House in 2000 as an official project of the White House Millennium Council, the annual Awards program celebrates design in various disciplines as a vital humanistic tool in shaping the world, and seeks to increase national awareness of design by educating the public and promoting excellence, innovation, and lasting achievement.

Curiosities: Rick Valicenti + the 21st Century Thirst

We’re excited to announce that last night Thirst had five pieces accepted into the Chicago Design Archives. The winning pieces are: Wright’s Utopia Catalog, AS+GG’s website, MCA’s Dry Ice Invitation, Thirst’s Top Five Love Songs, and the 09-10 LOEB Fellows poster.

Archive09, is an annual competition presented by the STA to recognize the best in Chicago design. This year’s competition drew hundreds of entries. Of that total, 44 were selected for the Chicago Design Archive (CDA), an online compendium of the most significant design work in Chicago’s history.

We posted previously about winning a Sappi’s Ideas that Matter grant… well, in addition to winning a generous grant to make the one drop project we also received these incredible cookies! Thirst Receives 2009 Best of Barrington Award

U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement

WASHINGTON D.C., June 8, 2009 — Thirst has been selected for the 2009 Best of Barrington Award in the Graphic Arts category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.
